Keep an emergency meal in the freezer. A large chicken if roasted can feed six, store a few extra chicken breasts in case the party is bigger. A tub of good vanilla ice cream and a packet of frozen summer berries (warmed with a stick of cinnamon for a quick sauce) can be an instant dessert.
