My First DIY Project!

My youngest son, who is 3 is in need of a twin size bed. He's been sleeping on a toddler bed for a while now, and I can tell he's not enjoying it anymore! Hubby and I have been discussing about buying a new bed for him, but I knew we could do better and save a few bucks!

I went to my parents house and took a look in the basement. There was my old twin bed that I use to sleep in just sitting there. Mattress, head board, foot board and a wooden board to lay on the bed frames and hold the mattress. It use to be part of a bunk bed set, but it's one of those that can be used as two beds as well.

Well, the head and foot board needs a coat of paint and the wooden board needs new batting and new material to be put over it. So I decided, I can fix it and make it look GREAT!

First, I brought out all the pieces...

Here's the wooden board.

The mattress.

Finally the rails, head board and foot board!

The first thing I did was tear off the fabric and batting off the wooden support board.

Then I decided to paint.

Now I don't paint much, but I think I did pretty good.

I painted the head and the foot board.

Defiantly looks better then it did before!

I then replaced the old cardboard with new cardboard.

I then laid the batting down.

I then laid the fabric over the batting and stapled gun a few piece to hold in place.

I then flipped it over...

and stapled all around the edges.

After I was done, I placed it on the bed rails and put the head & foot
boards on to see how it would look!

Here is my 3 year old trying out the bed!
Can't wait to bring it home and add the mattress to it!

20 Minute Mini Mission - Cleaning An End Table

This morning I decided to attack my end tables in my living room.

Yes, another dumping ground.

So I spent about 20 minutes taking everything off, sorting it and putting what did not belong there away!

I Love Changing Bed Sheets!

Every Sunday I change everyone's bed sheets!

It's funny how I hate making the beds daily, but I love changing the bed sheets.

Well except my oldest son's bed, he sleeps on the top bunk and I hate changing those sheets.

I also clean off our end tables, and Adam's side of the bed.

He likes to eat Reese Cups and drink his water while he watches TV.

So awhile back a gave him a small trash bucket to throw his Reese Cup wrappers in since before he would just throw them on the floor, which really irritated me.

Cleaning My Couch...OUCH!

Yes, I had to clean off my couch. Why? Well we got a new entertainment center last week, it's a little smaller than our last one and I kind of used it was a drop of station (not good). So I had a huge pile of items that did not belong there, then it all got put on the couch!

Not a good sight! So the first thing I did was gather some bins and boxes and marked them Keep, Trash/Recycle and Donate. I sorted everything!

So I spent an hour sorting and putting everything in there "homes". Well after I clean of the couch, I decided to investigate under the it, because we haven't been able to sit on the left side because some springs broke and I have been procrastinating about fixing it. Well with a little sweat, muscle and patients I fixed it! It's like new again!!!

Now my couch looks GREAT! Not sure what I'm going to do tomorrow?

Oh where have I been? I actually was doing really well for awhile, and that could be why I didn't post much on my blog, but unfortunately, I have fallen off the wagon. So it's time I get back on and start following Flylady again! I'll be back really soon. Just wanted to let you all know I AM BACK!

Make Cleaning Fun...Play House Cleaning Bingo!

Cleaning can be boring, tiresome, and just no fun. But who says it has to be like that. I figured out a way to do my daily chores with a little fun, by playing, House Cleaning Bingo! What I do is I generated some Bingo cards and wrote my daily chores on them, scrambled the words, print out the sheet then it's off to ~~clean~~ have fun. I look at my card and decided which chore I do first. Now for each Bingo I get, I reward myself with 15 minutes of computer time (you can reward yourself with what fits you), 5 across, up & down diagonal or 4 corners. After the 15 minutes is up, I work on my board again. Now once I have the board full, I reward myself with an additional 30 minutes of computer time. I take in consideration that there are somethings I have to do that are not on my card, like make lunch, dress the kids etc., so getting some BINGO's may take longer than other BINGO's!

Here is what I've done...

First, I wrote a list of all my chores.
Second, I then went to www.print-bingo.com (which is free) and typed in all my words.
Third, Once I was done, I printed out 5 copies of the boards (you can do more to have more variety).
Fourth, I picked which chore I would do then cross it off once completed.
Fifth, I reward myself for each Bingo I won!

You can do this with your children as well. Write out the childs chores, then have them scramble around to do their chores. You could reward them when the get a Bingo too. You also could print out some draw chips so the chores are more random, which can make it more fun!

Daily Cleaning Challenge - Hidden Clutter

Take a look around your living room and see what is hanging around that is really clutter but because you have become so used to it being there you don't see it as clutter. Have you purged those magazines and books lately? How about the videos, dvd's and cd's? Are they strewn in piles all over that because they belong in these rooms you don't see them anymore? Your mission for today is to set your timer for 15 minutes and go after the "hidden" clutter in these rooms. You will be amazed at how much neater the rooms look when you tackle this.

Today's mission is to declutter the tops of our dressers. The first
thing to do when decluttering is to throw away anything that is trash.
Those receipts, post it notes, etc that are just claiming space -
toss them!. The next thing is to look at what is left on your dresser
- Do you need it? Do you love it? Do you use it? Do you have
anything on your dresser that needs to be put away someplace else?
Pick up, put away, then Pick up and put in a give away box that you
will donate later.

bottles and boxes that are taking up space.
While you are doing this also take a look at the
expiration dates on the medicines that are there. If you have some
that need to get rid of, take care of that as well. Grab a damp

Your mission for today is to clean your bathroom trash can.
Use the tub to fill the can with hot water and add
some general purpose cleaner or dish soap. Let it soak
and then scrub the bottom, the sides and the outside. Turn it over
and let it dry in the tub and then put it back before someone needs
to bathe and ends up taking a shower with the trash can!

Let's clean out our refrigerators, take out the old left overs,
then check the fruit/vegetable drawers and toss what no longer is
appealing to eat. Third, check the meat and cheese drawer, check the
expiration dates on your items in there and toss what needs to go.
Fourth, check out the doors of the fridge, toss the empty condiment
jars and bottles that always seem to magically go back into the
fridge when empty. Last, grab a damp rag and wipe down the shelves.
Do not take every single thing out of your refrigerator and
then take the shelves out to clean
them. Just wipe them down.

Do you ever feel so overwhelm that it just knocks you out? This is what has happen to me. As many of you know, I have multiple blogs, and it can become a big weigh on you when you need to stay on top of them daily, and if you don't, you feel the need to catch up but can't...oh oh, I'm getting knocked out again just thinking about it *thump*.

Ok, I'm back, and my current knock out has definitely convinced me to just concentrate on three of my blogs. Though three may still be a lot, but my, Angie Is Living and My Weight Loss Progress blogs only need to be worked on 2-3 times a week. As for this blog, this is my number 1 priority. By working on this blog, will help keep control of my household chaos.

Now, back to my Flylady Babysteps. Day 18

Kidknows Outdoor Thermometer Review & Giveaway

Yesterday, I received this wonderful thermometer from Daniela at Kidknows.net. When I first saw this thermometer I thought how great is this. My oldest son, Tristan is 4 years old, and loves to pick out his own clothes. Well when he comes out of his bedroom with a long sleeve shirt and a pair of shorts or a muscle tank with a pair of pants which obviously to you and me knows those combination's won't work. This thermometer helps children understand that where the temperature is, will reveille what kind of clothes they should wear. This is very helpful when the child wants to be independent.

This morning I had Tristan check out the temperature and this is what he saw,

Then he went and got his clothes...

Daniela was very nice to send me an extra Kidknows Outdoor Thermometer to giveaway. I thought perfect, both of my younger boys can wear these. So I tried them on the boys, and they were so cute and fit perfect. Also, for the stripe design, I love it. All my kids have white socks, and it tends to get really confusing on matching the socks after I do the laundry. But these, I won't have any problem finding the mates.

What could you do with those empty prescription bottles? Well, you can recycle them, but another thing you can do is store your loose change in them. I store the empty prescription bottle in my car (or you could store in your purse), fill it with change and when I come to a coin drop or anytime I need some change, it's right there when I need it.

Do you have a desk job, and wish you could get some more exercising in you daily schedule. This would've been great when I was working, but even being a stay at home mom, who tends to be on the computer a lot, this program is ideal!

Break Pal is an online exercise plan that will help you get some work out time in when your working at home or at a workplace. You get a reminder and you choose what exercise to do. Then you get a visual demonstration of the 3-5 minute micro workout.

The workouts are: Cardio, Cardio Kung Fu, Yoga, Simple Stretching, Chair aerobics, Chi Kung and Dance aerobics. When I had a sitting job, my body would become stiff and sore, eight hours of sitting can be hard on your body. The exercises are done at your desk and it's only a few minutes. Most employers will encourage as part of the wellness program, because doing a small exercise will rejuvenate you and will help you to be more efficient at work.

As I'm writing this post, I just go a vocal reminder that it's time to work out...be back in a few minutes...Ok, I'm back did a quick workout, plus after your done they have an option to tweet your workout. It's all written for you, so all you have to do is click on "Tweet This" and it gets tweeted on Twitter!

I personally have really enjoyed this program. I feel like I'm getting some exercising in and that alone makes me feel better. I encourage all of you who have a desk job to try this out!

On day 12 I had to delete all my emails from Flylady, and I did!

Today, I was suppose to pick one of Kelly's Missions. The only problem is Kelly's Missions are only on the week days. So I did Friday's Mission, which was to dust the window sills, light fixtures and ceiling fans.

What is Saturday Picture Surprise?

Well since we are so busy through the week, lets spend a few minutes on Saturday to have fun, reminisce, and share are pictures with everyone. Every Saturday a random month, year and picture number that is in your folder will be listed. The pictures will go back to the year 2000 since a lot of us didn't have digital cameras until after 2000. But you don't have to have a digital camera. If you have all your pictures organized outside the computer, that is GREAT! You can always scan them in to share.

A New Look!

Today I was going out straight with my house work. Well, actually I attacked my bedroom. That is the worst room in my home. I've been dreading doing it for a long time! But my sister in law suggested to bring all the boxes and bins out in to the living room and sort them. Well I was going to do that, but decided to just pull a couple boxes and bins out at a time (no one knows how many boxes and bins I have in there, and if I brought them out...oh boy, I wouldn't have a living room, LOL). So while I was going through the boxes and bins I found some curtains that I had packed away. They smelled so good, (cedar) and decided to take down the curtains that were in my kitchen and replace them with these.

This picture was actually taken a year ago when I started Flylady the first time.
I have to say, my kitchen isnt' that clean anymore:(

And here is my new curtains I just put up!
I really like them. They give a new feel in the kitchen!

Noticed I made sure you can't see my floor, LOL.
Don't worry, my kitchen will be clean by the end of the weekend.

I have to wash all my dishes by hand, and with 5 of us it can end up being a lot. Luckily my oldest son helps me, which makes it a little easier for me. Someday, I hope to own a dishwasher.

I wasn't here yesterday. I had breakfast with my mom and then spent the rest of the day with my dear best friend Carrie. Adam had the day off, so he stayed home with the boys so I can have a "ME" day! I take them whenever I can. Anyway, I didn't do any of my babysteps yesterday except for shower, dress to shoes and fix hair & make-up.

Today on the other hand, I just showered and dress to my shoes.

Today, I need to add an inspirational page to my journal. Well I sort of already done that. It's actually the cover of my binder that inspires me. Pictures of my home clean and my oldest boy, Tristan helping. It puts a smile on my face and get's me motivated. I also have a page from the Flylady Forum of all the cheers and praises I got from the first time I did this.

Works For Me Wednesday - Foggy Mirrors

I really hate it when I get out of the shower and I can't see my reflection on the mirror because it's all fogged up. Well since I dry my hair with a blow dryer anyway, I take the blow dryer and aim it at the mirror (while it's on of course) and the fogged up mirror becomes clear in seconds! This works for me!

Mayo Clinic Health Manager

Being a mom of 3 boys, it can be an adventure, and those adventures can sometimes end up at emergency room. Then it's the monthly and yearly doctor visits, oh, did I mention I need to schedule myself too. It can get very hectic when it comes to doctor's appointments and keeping track of our health records. I know I have trouble keeping it all together. But now I have found the Mayo Clinic Health Manager. This program will help keep me updated on everyones health information and doctor appointments.

After I signed up the first thing I did was create my family records. Then I clicked on my record, which brought me to an overview page. There it list all the recommendations I should do or will need as I get older, some I did not even know of. I then updated everything I knew on my current health and my health history. You can track your medications, allergies, appointments & visits, surgeries or procedures, test & screenings, family history, concerns, social history & pregnancy. You also can track your health care providers, insurance plans, pharmacies & emergency contacts.

They also have a tool section which includes asthma control test, asthma management questionnaire, blood pressure tracker, BMI calculator, cholesterol tracker, depression assessment, heart disease risk calculator, height tracker, peak flow tracker, pregnancy due date calculator, weight tracker & build your own tracker.

Welcome to From Pigpen To Paradise! My name is Angie and I'm a stay at home mom of three little boys, ages 4, 2 & 1. They keep me on my toes and picking up after them through out the day. Between me and the boys, we are always looking for new products to try and review. Whether it's a new toy, infant/toddler gear, food or even organization gear for homes and cars.

Today I will be writing down those nagging negative voices that pop into my head? Then I need to turn those ugly words around and say something nice to myself.

Negative 1. I have failed

Positive 1. I haven't failed. Life has changed since the last time I started Flylady. I just need to change my house cleaning routines to fit what I do in my life now.

Negative 2. I'm lazy

Positive 2. I am not lazy. I just need to relearn my cleaning routines. I've done it before, I can do it again. This time it will be easier!

Negative 3. I hate my home! I live in a trailer, why should I care what it looks like?

Positive 3. It's not my home I hate, it's the mess inside it. My home is not my ideal home, but it's a roof over my head. It's a home to be proud of because we bought it. When my home is clean, it looks like a new place, plus I can decorate it more to fit my style which will be part of me.
